Journey back in time at Cockatoo Island
A group of ELC students visited the historical Cockatoo Island on the weekend! Cockatoo Island has rich history dating back to the first settlement in Australia. The island was used as a place to build and repair ships in the past and was used as a shelter during World War II. Convicts were kept there for many years, as the water surrounding the island was supposedly shark-infested which made it difficult for prisoners to escape. The island was more recently used as a set for the movies, Wolverine and Unbroken.
The students enjoyed exploring the historical buildings and artefacts left on the island, as well as the incredible views of Sydney Harbour! We finished the afternoon with a drink in the sun at the Island Bar which overlooks the Harbour.
